Civil Service Reform Program Reviewed Current Integrated pay scale of Government

The Minister of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery informed deputies at the National Assembly that as part of the Civil Service Reform program 2018-2027, his ministry has reviewed the current integrated pay-scale of the Government of the Gambia and has produced new pay-scale options for consideration by Cabinet.

Hon. Baboucarr Bouy made this remarks on Tuesday as he was answering the questions from Sere-Kunda Central lawmaker, Hon. Musa Cham as to what plans does the Public Service Ministry have to review the salary scale of the Civil Servants to match with the demands of the time?

In responding to Hon. Cham’s oral question, Minister Bouy informed deputies that one of the options was considered and approved by the Cabinet in November 2021 for possible implementation with effect from July 2022.

He however, stated that due to the huge cost implication of the new pay-scale and the realization of a tight fiscal space, the implementation was suspended until the revenue situation of Government improves.

“As we also await the possibility of implementing the approved pay-scale, further work is being done to streamline the civil service through the functional reviews we have initiated recently in some Government institutions as part of the Public Administration and Modernization Project (PAMP) which will eventually be rolled out to cover Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” Public Service Minister Bouy informed deputies.

Sere-Kunda Central lawmaker, Hon. Musa Cham also asked the Public Service Minister as to when will his Ministry come up with the restructuring of the Civil Service pay-scale?

Minister Bouy responded before deputies that apart from the earlier work done by his ministry on the revision of the pay-scale as he earlier highlighted, his ministry will only consider the restructuring of the Civil Service pay-scale following the finalization of the functional reviews.
