Government Established Performance Management Unit at PMO

The Vice-Chairman at the Public Service Commission (PSC) informed Governor and his Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) members at West Coast Region (WCR) that Performance Management Unit has already been established at the PMO by Government.

 

Mr. Musa Sanneh revealed this during his institution meeting with the Governor, Seyfolus (Chief) and his regional TAC members on Tuesday held at Governor’s conference hall in Brikama where Governor Ousman J. Bojang suggested to PSC and PMO for the establishment of Performance Management system within civil service.

 

In response to Governor Bojang’s suggestion, PSC Vice chairman informed Governor that the purpose of the unit is to track performance of both employees and the institutions in the civil service, stating that PSC is on the process of appointing require number of staff at the unit to kick-start the process.

 

Mr. Sanneh explained to Governor Bojang and team about the mandate of PSC which includes: to recruit, promote, train, strengthen performance and facilitate effective and efficient service delivery in civil service.

 

The engagement at Governor’s office in Brikama marked the end of the PSC outreach program to Governors and Executive Coordinators offices in the country.

 

He therefore brief Governor Bojang and team about the purpose of their engagements with Governors and Executive Coordinators in the country which he said, is to enable the PSC to get first-hand information on issues affecting civil servants within their various sectors that would require the Commission involvement to address some of those situation.

 

PSC Vice chairman explained that his office works closely with Personnel Management Office as its technical arm to bring about necessary reforms to ensure effective and efficiency service delivery for the citizenry.

 

For his part, Governor, West Coast Region, Ousman J. Bojang underscored his office dedication to proactive measures and effective response to safeguard the communities within his region during challenging times.

 

He informed PSC members that his office mandate encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including overseeing the region’s administrative functions, policy implementations, project monitoring and representing the government at the regional level.

 

He catalogues his office success stories like visiting British Embassy in Banjul where his office strengthens partnership and collaboration leading to the approval of a project supporting capacity building in disaster response and mitigation, working with Seyfolus (Chiefs) with on Land-Banking for Future-Use among others.

 

He outlined his office challenges in his region are as follows: illegal sand mining, logistic support to security forces, inability to house government agencies within Governor’s office premises, lack of staff appraisal system, and monitoring.

 

In attendance during the meeting were the PSC members, Mr. Kanyi K. Touray and Mr. Kemo Conteh and Cadet Officer at PSC, Mrs. Nyima Sonko.
