MoPS Staff trains on Skills Gap Assessment of MDAs

Twenty-two (22) participants from various units within the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) on Tuesday May 7, 2024 concluded a day-long training on Skills Gap Assessment (SGA) of the Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at Ocean Bay Hotel, Cape Point in Bakau.

The main objective of the training is to understand the purpose and significance of Skills Gaps Assessment, explain the rationale behind the Skills Gap Assessment, describe the benefits of Skills Gap Assessment, explain steps in conducting Skills Gap Assessment and learn techniques to identify skills gaps within the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The purpose/rationale of the training is to improve the understanding of workforce needed, improve performance, learning and retention, help identify realistic interventions, support optimal use of human capital and other available resources just to mentioned few.

Declaring the training opened on behalf of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Service, Mr. Pateh Jah, Director, Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit under the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery, Sheriff Jallow commended participants for attending the training.

“The training will boosts your personnel, learning and development and will enhance your capabilities. This training is the first step and it is importance to our journey to have regular capacity building training on Skills Gap assessment of MDAs,” Mr. Jallow explained.

According to Mr. Jallow, Skills Gap Assessment is part of the ministry’s work and mandates especially the Human Resources Development Division (HRDD) under the Personnel Management Office (PMO).

Civil Service Reform director, Mr. Sheriff Jallow explained that the new knowledge gained by participants will add value to their (participants) official work.

The consultants of the Skills Gap Assessment project are Ugandan and Kenyan nationals from CERFODES Firm led by the coordinator of the project, Mr. Ronald Okite.
